Fishing lures, in early times, were made from bone or bronze.  The Chinese and Egyptians used fishing rods, hooks, and lines as early as 2,000 B.C. but many fisherman used handlines.  The hooks used were typically made from bronze which were strong but were very slip and less visible to the fish.  The modern fishing lure was made commercially in the United States in the early 1900's by the firm Heddon and Pflueger in Michigan.
