Route 66 is also known as Will Rogers Highway, the Main Street of America, or the Mother Road.  It was one of the original highways of the U.S. highway system.  It was established on November 11th, 1926.  The highway originally ran from Illinois through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending in California.  The highway covered a total of 2,448 miles.  The largest spread of highway runs through New Mexico being a 487 mile stretch.
