The United States formed this division of the military on November 10, 1775 during the Revolutionary War and is known for Amphibious, expeditionary and aerial warfare.  Headquartered in Washington D.C. at the Pentagon the Marine Corps plays a role globally.  The Corps employee’s over 180,000 active personnel and over 40,000 reserve personnel.  They also have 1,166 aircraft and vehicles ranging from tanks to personnel carriers.  The list doesn’t stop there as it also has numerous types of weapons systems such as HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) and truck mounted artillery weapons as part of its arsenal that utilize guided munitions for pin point accuracy. 

The most recognized transportation system for the Marines is the Bell Helicopter V-22 Osprey designed by Boeing Rotorcraft Systems.  The V-22 Osprey has the capability of taking off and landing like a helicopter and once in air it converts to the flying speeds of an airplane by rotating it rotors from a vertical to a horizontal position.  The Osprey started it service in June of 2007 and has become a valuable asset.
