In 1857 land was purchased for the Boston College on Harrison Ave.  The College started with 2 buildings, a schoolhouse and a church.  These buildings opened their doors to the first class in 1859.  Due to little fan fare the College closed its doors 2 years late.  It wasnt until 1863 when the college was formally approved by the Commonweatlh of Massachusetts.
