In 1895, Eastern Illinois University was established as the Eastern Illinois Normal School.  The campus was on a 40 acre lot.  The school opened its doors in 1899 with 125 students.  Eastern Illinois' Old Main Building looks like a castle with it's Gothic Revival architecture.
