Honey bees are a member of the genus Apis.  They produce and store honey and are part of the construction of perennial, colonial nests from wax.  There are only 7 recognized species of the honey bee with a total of 44 sub species.  The western Honey Bee is the most well known and have been domesticated for honey as well as the pollination of crops.  Where the climate is cold, honey bees will typically stop flying once the temperature reaches 50 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.  They will then crowd themselves into the central area of the hive forming a winter cluster.  The worker bees will crowd around the queen creating a nice 81 degree Fahrenheit climate.
