The dreamcatcher was originally created by the American Indians.  They consist of a small wooden hoop covered in a web of or net of natural fibers, with meaningful and or sacred feathers and beads attached, hanging from the bottom of the of the hoop.  The Dreamcatcher has often believed to originated from the Ojibwa Chippewa tribe.  According to the Ojibwa story, a mystical and maternal "Spider Woman" served as the the spiritual protector for the tribe.  Morse so for the young children and babies.  As the community grew and spread across the land the Spider Woman felt it difficult to continue protecting and watching over all the members.  So she created the dreamcatcher.  The Ojibwe word for dreamcatcher asabikeshiinh actually means "spider," referring to the web woven to loosely cover the hoop.
